One A Day Update March 30, 2012

Well, it’s been a while since I had a one a day post. But there’s a new thread on Ravelry in the One A Day forum so I thought it would be an idea to give a quick update.

My Blanket Statement is now almost finished – I’m on to the final round of the border, so it should hopefully be completed over the weekend.

On the Bernat Mystery Afghan CAL we have a catch-up week at last so with any luck by next Wednesday I should be up to speed with that too. Although my children break up from school today for Easter holidays so there won’t be much crochet time available! There are a whole lot of things going on over the holidays – my daughter’s 13th birthday(!!), a visit to my Mother-in-law, and my eldest son singing in ‘Worldsong!’ at the Royal Albert Hall – so there may not be much crafty time at all!

I have also started another new project, inspired by the film ‘Bright Star’. About the poet John Keats and his romance with Fanny Brawne, it is a truly beautiful film, and has oodles of the most gorgeous crochet!! Short cardigans made from teeny tiny motifs which are completely spectacular. So I felt I had to give it a try. I found this yarn in a bargain bucket, only one ball so I’ll be looking for a lot more if it works out. The yarn is Patons Mirage and I started with a 3.5mm hook, making tiny little squares and joining as I go. It’s more like a belt than a cardigan right now but I’m enjoying trying it out.

And then just in case that’s not enough, I thought I’d make these egg cosies for the children for Easter!

I love Mollie Makes! It’s great for ideas and inspiration. I just have to keep it hidden until I’ve read it first otherwise my daughter steals it away to her room!

That’s about it except to say the Square Swap is still ongoing and I’m receiving some fabulous creations from all over the world – such fun!

Happy Friday xx

Because I had a yoga class this morning, I’m baking soda bread this afternoon for a get-together tomorrow, and then this evening my youngest returns from his school trip. I can’t wait for him to come home. He’s been away before but only within the county, and this time they’ve gone to London. From the updates I’ve received they have been having a wonderful time and I’m sure he’ll have lots to tell later.

Lots of lovely crochet this week. Clue 5 in the mystery afghan is a granny octagon so nice and easy – it just meanders along to the end which hopefully means I will complete 6 before Wednesday. I’m waiting for the catch-up week as I’ll really need it.

I also joined in a square swap on Facebook which is proving to be great fun. There are 20 of us and I’ve sent 5 squares and received 4 so far. We are spread around the world and it’s lovely sending and receiving post like this. Much nicer than just the usual bills and flyers!

And I finally got back to the Blanket Statement! The border is now under way and I’m hoping the Ta-dah! is not too far off!

So now some photos of my square swap squares…

And next time I’ll post photos of the squares I’ve received!

Happy Friday xx

I’ve heard this twice this week – and it has a certain déjà vu for me! It has to be loud and most definitely dance!

Tuesday’s Tallies March 6, 2012

It’s Tuesday and the sun is shining once again. As all my baby gifts are now complete I have time to concentrate on the Bernat Mystery Afghan CAL. It’s my first mystery Cal and it’s lots of fun. A new clue is released every Wednesday, 3pm my time, so I get to see it just before I dash out on the school run. It’s evening before I can look at it properly and begin to crochet. Immense fun though.

The first clue was for 12 small squares – 9 in the main colour, 1 each of colours A, B and C. Clue 2 required 6 large octagons – 4 with colour A and 2 in the main colour. Last week’s clue, number 3, was for 6 different large octagons – 2 with the main colour, and 4 in colour C.

Needless to say I’m behind already! I’m missing 2 from clue 1, 1 from clue 2 and 4 from clue 3. And clue 4 will be out tomorrow! Still, it’s lots of fun and apparently there will be some catch-up time at the end!

This is where I am so far. I’m using Stylecraft Special with Plum for the main colour, then Meadow (A), Lipstick (C) and Magenta and Aster will be B and D but I haven’t decided which is which yet, hence one of each for the first clue.

So this will be my new one a day project and I’ll be checking out the other one-a-dayers later this week.

Happy Tuesday xx

And because this week I was reminded by my best friend that this song makes her think of me – it was something to do with my clothes!!

Bye, Baby Bunting x March 1, 2012

And by “Bye” I mean it’s ready to go off in the post as my cousin’s baby has now arrived!

So, on this first day of the month I am truly happy to begin with a grand Ta-Dah for my baby bunting. It has been a joy to make, combining crochet with bondaweb, felt and a little bit of sewing – great fun!

Drum roll please…..!

To say I’m really pleased would be an understatement!!

Thank you to Lucy of Attic24 fame as the idea came from her Jolly Festive Bunting. When I first saw it I thought it would make the perfect ‘new baby’ gift and had to give it a try. I used Rico Creative Cotton which is a bit splitty to work with but the colours are great.

So, onward and upward… there’s the Blanket Statement crying out to be finished now, and then there’s the Bernat Mystery Afghan CAL. Never a dull moment…!

The bunting is off to the Post Office along with the baby beanie and socks…
