New Year’s Resolutions January 9, 2015

It seems everywhere I look today people are posting about their resolutions for the New Year – things to do, promises made, ideas they plan to bring into being, and so on. It made me think about my own approach to the New Year and those things that I might like to undertake, so here goes…

I’ve decided to keep a project diary, where I’ll keep track of all my knitting and crochet projects, plus any other craft-based ideas I might have along the way. I’ll include the details of the yarn I’m using, the hook or needle size, even the yarn shop/website the yarn came from, if necessary. Then I can track my progress, and see how I’m getting on.

And I thought it might be an idea to add the books I’m reading, just so I have a record of those too.

As well as any fabulous recipes I come across, and the results if I try them out!

And find time every Friday for a regular update here, to share what’s happened throughout the week.

So, this week’s projects are:

My Attic24 Cosy Stripe Blanket

My cosy stripe blanket

My cosy stripe blanket

16 stripes in, more to follow this weekend 🙂

Next, a crocodile stitch hat from simply Crochet Magazine…

The pattern is for a child’s size hat but it’s so cute I wanted one for myself, so I’m trying to make it larger – watch this space 😉

And last, but not least, a knitted tie for my hubby, which was meant to be for Christmas but somehow didn’t quite make it! almost done tho’

My current books are:

Haruki Murakami – The Strange Library. A Christmas gift – loving it so far.

Nina Stibbe – Love, Nina. This is my book at bedtime – light, and easy to read, and fun. Not too troublesome before I nod off.

And today I read a recipe for Apple Cinnamon Loaf posted on Facebook. It looks yummy so I may just have to try it out this weekend – I’ll make sure to let you know.

And that’s all for now – happy Friday xx

Finally arrived last night at our first destination on our road trip/visiting the family.
And today had a lovely lunch in Frinton-on-Sea, ending with a delicious lemon sorbet.

And as I didn’t have a chance to post this selfie from yesterday, here it is…

Close-up. I started to think about this as I made my lunch, so it seemed only right that my lunch became the subject of the photo.

Spelt bread, little gem lettuce, salmon and mayo – yum!

Yellow. I was thinking about it and then there it was, before my very eyes, as I washed the dishes. There is always a random collection of items on the kitchen windowsill, a variety of vases, flowers, odd toys just popped out of the way.

And then later I made a simple garlicky lentil soup, just what was needed, food for the soul, simplicity itself.

More cake! July 14, 2011

It’s so hot today and really not the day to be baking but here I am in the kitchen again as my only daughter requires a cake to take to camp tomorrow. She’s off to the Isles of Scilly for four days and I will miss her terribly. So today I don’t really mind being stuck in a hot kitchen as it means she will have her lemon syrup cake to take and share.

To make the process more bearable I dug out a couple of old fave cds, hits collections of The Doors and Johnny Cash, and had myself a little sing along, a bit of a bop. Just hearing the opening trumpet on ‘Ring of Fire’ makes me smile x

Good Friends July 12, 2011

I love it how with good friends they can pop round in the afternoon for a cup of tea and a slice of cake and then before you know it we’re all eating dinner and enjoying a few glasses of wine. And the children are all happily ensconced, watching a film, playing a game, spending time together. It was a perfect Sunday, just haven’t had time to jot it down until now.

Son no.3 desperately wanted to bake a Victoria sponge cake, and it had to be handmade, not in the food processor. So there he was, creaming butter and sugar, cracking eggs – he’s only 9. But he did a great job and it quickly vanished! And here it is, proudly displayed on my favourite charity shop vintage plate…

Good friends, good food, good music – that’s what it’s all about x

Sometimes I surprise myself! July 5, 2011

I suddenly remembered this afternoon that Son No.2 has cookery tomorrow and requires ingredients for a lemon and orange drizzle cake. So I scoured the shelves and found almost everything, and thought that a quick visit to our local deli would provide the rest. But no! I was able to find eggs, lemons, even ground almonds, but no lemon curd. So I tried the local shop but still nothing. Then I seemed to recall a recipe for lemon curd lurking in a cookery book – how difficult could it be…!

I used this recipe from Rachel Allen and it worked!!
