Tuesday again! Time is marching on this month – it’s going so fast!

I still haven’t managed to add a square to my Square Swap Blanket every day, but I’ve almost joined three more. On the other hand, I have completed the doily. It’s blocking now!! And then it will be off to the post office.

As an aside, I really enjoyed listening to Richard Hawley’s album ‘Standing at the Sky’s Edge’ while I was ironing this morning. I wondered if anyone else had heard it.

So photos…

Square Swap Blanket – it’s coming along!

Blocking the doily

I’m off now to check out the others taking part in Tuesday’s Tallies over at Gingerbread Girl.

Happy Tuesday xx

One A Day Update March 30, 2012

Well, it’s been a while since I had a one a day post. But there’s a new thread on Ravelry in the One A Day forum so I thought it would be an idea to give a quick update.

My Blanket Statement is now almost finished – I’m on to the final round of the border, so it should hopefully be completed over the weekend.

On the Bernat Mystery Afghan CAL we have a catch-up week at last so with any luck by next Wednesday I should be up to speed with that too. Although my children break up from school today for Easter holidays so there won’t be much crochet time available! There are a whole lot of things going on over the holidays – my daughter’s 13th birthday(!!), a visit to my Mother-in-law, and my eldest son singing in ‘Worldsong!’ at the Royal Albert Hall – so there may not be much crafty time at all!

I have also started another new project, inspired by the film ‘Bright Star’. About the poet John Keats and his romance with Fanny Brawne, it is a truly beautiful film, and has oodles of the most gorgeous crochet!! Short cardigans made from teeny tiny motifs which are completely spectacular. So I felt I had to give it a try. I found this yarn in a bargain bucket, only one ball so I’ll be looking for a lot more if it works out. The yarn is Patons Mirage and I started with a 3.5mm hook, making tiny little squares and joining as I go. It’s more like a belt than a cardigan right now but I’m enjoying trying it out.

Bright Star

And then just in case that’s not enough, I thought I’d make these egg cosies for the children for Easter!

Egg Cosies

I love Mollie Makes! It’s great for ideas and inspiration. I just have to keep it hidden until I’ve read it first otherwise my daughter steals it away to her room!

That’s about it except to say the Square Swap is still ongoing and I’m receiving some fabulous creations from all over the world – such fun!

Happy Friday xx

It’s Tuesday and the sun is shining once again. As all my baby gifts are now complete I have time to concentrate on the Bernat Mystery Afghan CAL. It’s my first mystery Cal and it’s lots of fun. A new clue is released every Wednesday, 3pm my time, so I get to see it just before I dash out on the school run. It’s evening before I can look at it properly and begin to crochet. Immense fun though.

The first clue was for 12 small squares – 9 in the main colour, 1 each of colours A, B and C. Clue 2 required 6 large octagons – 4 with colour A and 2 in the main colour. Last week’s clue, number 3, was for 6 different large octagons – 2 with the main colour, and 4 in colour C.

Needless to say I’m behind already! I’m missing 2 from clue 1, 1 from clue 2 and 4 from clue 3. And clue 4 will be out tomorrow! Still, it’s lots of fun and apparently there will be some catch-up time at the end!

Bernat Mystery Afghan CAL 2012

This is where I am so far. I’m using Stylecraft Special with Plum for the main colour, then Meadow (A), Lipstick (C) and Magenta and Aster will be B and D but I haven’t decided which is which yet, hence one of each for the first clue.

So this will be my new one a day project and I’ll be checking out the other one-a-dayers later this week.

Happy Tuesday xx

OK I know it’s Wednesday! February 22, 2012

So maybe I should call mine One A Day on Wednesday rather than Tuesday’s Tallies!

I’ve been quite caught up with lots of things going on for the children, the usual winter colds, sore throats, etc and not a lot of time for me! Hopefully that will soon change!!

Not a lot to report on my one-a-day either as my blanket statement has ground to a halt. My LYS has so far been unable to acquire any Meadow so today I finally had to order online. It’s not that I am against online shopping; I just wanted to support a local shop. Also, it’s right across the road from me, a sort of newsagents cum corner shop which actually sells Stylecraft Special – can you believe it? Anyway, once the yarn arrives I can resume the blanket statement.

In the meantime, I’ve completed all the pennants for the baby bunting so it’s now on to the letters and motifs. The baby beanie is finished too, so we’re just waiting for baby to put in an appearance!

I’ve also been knitting a pair of fingerless gloves for a friends’ daughter. It’s her birthday on Friday and she’s a student so I thought she might need them to keep warm. We’re all getting together for a birthday supper so I need to get on and finish them so they can be wrapped and ready for the weekend. I’ll take a photo too so I can show them in my next post.

So for now, happy Wednesday xx

It’s Tuesday once again and this one finds me in a much improved mood. Today all feels right in my world!

Since last week my blanket statement has come along very nicely and I’m now on to the border. I have however run out of ‘Meadow’ in the 2nd repeat so I’m waiting for a new ball to arrive. I could have just used another colour but as I may need more ‘Meadow’ in my next blanket CAL, the Bernat Mystery CAL which begins 15th Feb, I decided I may as well have another ball! I have 2 colour choices for that and still can’t quite decide but more on that next week when it begins.

In the meantime it meant I could get on with the beanie and the bunting – both now almost finished so hopefully a ta-dah before the weekend!

And so to the border...

It looks a bit wonky in the photo, but doesn’t seem quite so in real life!

I’ll be going to check out all the other one-a-dayers over at Gingerbread Girl’s now.

Have a great week xx

Tuesday’s Tallies – but on Wednesday again! February 1, 2012

So that was January! I can’t believe how quickly it has gone! We began very well with a champagne breakfast with friends on the 1st, and ended with a fab party on the 28th (well, almost the end of January!). I discovered slojitos – like a mojito but made with sloe gin, basil and limes – a great party drink and definitely a new favourite for me.

In between those two events there has been plenty going on – the pressure is cranking up at school for my 2 older boys with exams looming for both of them and lots of coursework/controlled assessments in the meantime. I’m trying to keep them well fed and rested so they don’t buckle – roll on half term. Dressmaking aplenty for my daughter. I’m so glad we bought her a new sewing machine for Christmas, and can’t wait to give it a sneaky try when I get the chance – it’s so much better than my old thing!    And my youngest is full of bounce at the moment – I wish I had some of his energy to get me through the winter.

Yesterday it suddenly got much colder so it was fire lit, steaming mugs of rooibos chai and a couple of episodes of Bleak House for me, accompanied by a little crochet and knitting. My Blanket Statement is coming along nicely and I’ve just started a tiny beanie for the my cousin’s baby. I’ve already finished a tiny pair of socks and the bunting is almost there.

Getting there...

Tiny baby things

More bunting!

So it’s over now to Gingerbread Girl to check out the other one-a-dayers!

Happy Wednesday xx

Tuesday’s Tallies on a Tuesday – that’s novel for me! Especially considering there are more things going wrong than right at the moment. Although I’m usually a positive, glass half full type of girl, even I have been sorely tried recently.

However, when I’m lost in my little world of crochet, I feel much better! And I’m pleased with how my projects are coming along.

Cue photos…

The baby bunting begins...

So I began my baby bunting but had to order more colours of the Rico Creative Cotton – shame! And they arrived this morning…

My favourite kind of post!

New yarn

And while I was waiting for the new yarn I decided to join the Blanket Statement CAL on Ravelry – thanks Kashi! I still had lots of Stylecraft left from my ripple blanket and this was just asking to be made! For the first time I’ve tried Lucy’s join as you go method and it’s great! Although there’ll still be plenty of ends to sew in!

My blanket statement

I’m really enjoying this and it’s coming together very quickly. I’ve had to juggle a couple of the colours as I found I didn’t totally like the shrimp colour in the first two squares. Other than that though – it’s great!

I’m off now to check out all the other one-a-dayers over on Gingerbread Girl’s blog. If you haven’t been there yet, why not have a peek?

Have a great week xx

One A Day Project 2012 January 11, 2012

And so we return to the One-A-Dayers and Tuesdays Tallies for 2012. Of course it is Wednesday but that is nothing new for me.

I had decided to finish a few WIPs in January and then join a CAL that is beginning in February. It’s a Bernat Mystery Afghan and I found it from the We Love Lucy Facebook group.

Of course many things can happen before February and having just seen Carole’s new blanket I am very tempted to start one of those! I’m really missing my ripple – it was a lovely cosy project for the chilly evenings so I’m keen to start another blanket soon! And big thank yous to everyone for your lovely comments on my ripple ta-dah post – it’s been a wonderful journey that I’ve really enjoyed sharing with you all.

Also, my cousin’s baby is due early February so there are many baby things to make too. After seeing Lucy’s festive bunting I thought I’d try that first and add baby’s name to the bunts. So yesterday I made the first one. Now I just need to order some more yarn – ha ha!

Hope everyone has a great week and fingers crossed I’ll have a lovely bunting update next Tuesday xx

The First Ta-Dah of 2012 January 5, 2012

Or the last of 2011 if you prefer as it was actually finished on the evening of Boxing Day!

I’m talking about my ripple blanket of course, and although it wasn’t finished in time for Christmas Day, I did finally get there. Everything else was completed and wrapped, sent off or tucked into stockings, and only the ripple remained. But then events conspired against me and between the weather and the scaffolding(!!) I just couldn’t finish.

However, the moment arrived when every last end was sewn in and I folded it up and handed it over to my daughter. I don’t think she could quite believe it was for her. But it now has pride of place on her bed and is carried around the house to wherever she needs it. I love the thought that this could be with her for many years, keeping her warm and cosy.

So now for the photos…

The ripple ends!

The folded ripple

The ripple in place

Hip, hip hooray!!

And another and most wonderful thing was that I received a Liebster Blog award from Niamh of The Craft Giraffe.

I’m so chuffed that she chose to give this award to me, I just can’t put it into words. A big thank you to Niamh, and thanks to all of you who read my posts, and for all your lovely comments. I love being a part of this community.

And now I get to choose my own favourites to pass on the award to. The idea is that they are blogs with less than 200 followers, and once chosen, they get to choose five of their favourites. After much thought, the five I have chosen are:

1. Beberouge

2. Knitspiring Odyssey

3. Little Things Made With Love

4. Crafts from the Cwtch

5. Kashi’s Corner

It was difficult to choose as there are so many wonderful blogs but these are ones I check out regularly – they are quirky, often funny and definitely inspirational so please check them out when you get a minute.

So, I guess for today that’s all. Lots of love to everyone and good wishes for 2012 xx

Wednesday… or Tuesday’s Tallies 9 November 23, 2011

Just a quick catchup for me this week. Lots going on and not a lot of time to spare.

Stats are: almost completed the 40th colour change! Therefore, there are 20 more colour changes to complete! Can it be done in time for Christmas?? In theory, yes, but in practise it will no doubt be with fingers crossed!

I have almost cast off the gaiter for my Grandma though and yesterday I purchased new yarn to make another for my Gran. It was a very interesting visit to my LYS with my husband. He actually offered his opinion on the yarn I chose, then suggested another that he preferred, and when I couldn’t decide between the two, he told me to buy both!! Definitely not an everyday occurrence, in fact he would usually meet up with me later. Why this sudden interest in my craft? Any ideas? Not that I am complaining at all as I enjoyed sharing the moment with him.

I’ve also been teaching my daughter and my youngest son (12 and 9) to crochet mini stockings to gift to their friends at Christmas. We’re using this pattern here and it’s going well – I’ll post some photos when the first ones are complete!

So I’m hoping to have time this evening to peep into everyone’s projects and get a quick update. Thank you so much to everyone who has commented on my posts so far. I find it really encouraging and there are definitely days where this keeps me going.

Have a great week xx
