Or the last of 2011 if you prefer as it was actually finished on the evening of Boxing Day!

I’m talking about my ripple blanket of course, and although it wasn’t finished in time for Christmas Day, I did finally get there. Everything else was completed and wrapped, sent off or tucked into stockings, and only the ripple remained. But then events conspired against me and between the weather and the scaffolding(!!) I just couldn’t finish.

However, the moment arrived when every last end was sewn in and I folded it up and handed it over to my daughter. I don’t think she could quite believe it was for her. But it now has pride of place on her bed and is carried around the house to wherever she needs it. I love the thought that this could be with her for many years, keeping her warm and cosy.

So now for the photos…

The ripple ends!

The folded ripple

The ripple in place

Hip, hip hooray!!

And another and most wonderful thing was that I received a Liebster Blog award from Niamh of The Craft Giraffe.

I’m so chuffed that she chose to give this award to me, I just can’t put it into words. A big thank you to Niamh, and thanks to all of you who read my posts, and for all your lovely comments. I love being a part of this community.

And now I get to choose my own favourites to pass on the award to. The idea is that they are blogs with less than 200 followers, and once chosen, they get to choose five of their favourites. After much thought, the five I have chosen are:

1. Beberouge

2. Knitspiring Odyssey

3. Little Things Made With Love

4. Crafts from the Cwtch

5. Kashi’s Corner

It was difficult to choose as there are so many wonderful blogs but these are ones I check out regularly – they are quirky, often funny and definitely inspirational so please check them out when you get a minute.

So, I guess for today that’s all. Lots of love to everyone and good wishes for 2012 xx

Almost… December 20, 2011

I can’t believe it’s almost Christmas! It seemed like there were weeks to go and now… it’s the 20th already!

Our tree is up, cards posted, gifts being wrapped, and plenty of mad last minute crafting going on!

I only have 9 colour changes remaining on my ripple blanket and I’m determined to finish it, and even have all the ends sewn in. Hence, not much time for posting but hopefully photos and a ta-dah when it’s done!

To all of you who read my posts and leave your lovely comments I wish a very merry Christmas, a peaceful and happy holiday, a time of blessings and good wishes, and hopefully we can have a catch-up before the New Year begins.

Love and Christmas wishes xxx

Wednesday… or Tuesday’s Tallies 9 November 23, 2011

Just a quick catchup for me this week. Lots going on and not a lot of time to spare.

Stats are: almost completed the 40th colour change! Therefore, there are 20 more colour changes to complete! Can it be done in time for Christmas?? In theory, yes, but in practise it will no doubt be with fingers crossed!

I have almost cast off the gaiter for my Grandma though and yesterday I purchased new yarn to make another for my Gran. It was a very interesting visit to my LYS with my husband. He actually offered his opinion on the yarn I chose, then suggested another that he preferred, and when I couldn’t decide between the two, he told me to buy both!! Definitely not an everyday occurrence, in fact he would usually meet up with me later. Why this sudden interest in my craft? Any ideas? Not that I am complaining at all as I enjoyed sharing the moment with him.

I’ve also been teaching my daughter and my youngest son (12 and 9) to crochet mini stockings to gift to their friends at Christmas. We’re using this pattern here and it’s going well – I’ll post some photos when the first ones are complete!

So I’m hoping to have time this evening to peep into everyone’s projects and get a quick update. Thank you so much to everyone who has commented on my posts so far. I find it really encouraging and there are definitely days where this keeps me going.

Have a great week xx

Well well well it’s Tuesday and I’ve made it to the computer! Yet another busy week in my house. Unfortunately our car radiator decided to leak on Friday which meant an untimely meeting with the AA who thankfully got us back on the road, but now, oh dear, car in the garage for a few days, leaving us relying on friends for the school run and plenty of walking! We had a lovely get together with friends on Saturday, and then some catching up with homework and laundry on Sunday. Then Monday, back to it.

No car means less going out, especially as we are busy with the fireplace too. I spent yesterday decluttering in the bedroom and now have a dust-free tidy room – fabulous. I’m looking forward to the fireplace being finished so I can work some similar magic in the sitting room. Just now it looks like this…

Ripple in the kitchen

On the One a Day front I have managed some rows on the ripple and am now on to colour change 37. I know I am slacking in the ripple department but I’m still determined to finish for Christmas. I can’t wait to see the look on my daughter’s face when she discovers it’s actually for her. The other day she said how lovely it is, and how nice to see it spreading over my knees as it grows, and how handy that is now it’s getting colder! She doesn’t read my blog so she must read my mind! Or maybe we are just so similar. She loves crafting too, can knit and crochet, and goes to a textiles group after school. Last year she made a dress – she was only 11 – and they had an end of term fashion show with all the year 11 girls in their prom dresses. My, what an occasion. This year she is making a mini collection of 4 items – I’ll try and post some pics when it’s ready!

I’ve also cast on a scarf for my Grandma for Christmas, just yesterday. I found the pattern in a book called Knit Green and it’s here on Ravelry. I may make a couple, one for my Gran too, then find some lovely scarf pins to complete the gifts. I’m also making headway with the 2 at a time socks – great fun!

So off now to check out the other one-a-dayers over on Gingerbread Girl’s blog.

Tuesday’s just seem to be too busy of late, with no time to get anywhere near the computer!

Of course, we had a busy time on Monday, what with Hallowe’en and all, supper with friends, trick or treating in the pouring rain, and these gorgeous sweet little munchkins lanterns!

Munchkin lanterns

The blanket is still rippling away, on to colour change 31 now, and still smitten.

Rippling along

I’ve also managed to knit another wash cloth so only one more of those to go.

And I began crocheting snowflakes after reading a post on Ravelry. I had my own experience of a Special Care Baby Unit when our second son was born, 11 weeks prematurely , on New Years Eve 1996. It was a complete shock for us all, and everyone was so kind and helpful. After 12 weeks of living our lives on a day to day rollercoaster ride he finally came home. It hasn’t been easy; he has cerebral palsy, with mobility problems, learning difficulties, asthma, it’s quite a list. But he is wonderful, talented and a fabulous human being. And this New Years Eve he will be 15. I don’t know where the time has gone!

Back to today, and I’m hoping that after the school run I can check out the other One A Dayers over on Gingerbread Girl’s blog!

Happy Wednesday xx

Tuesday again and this week it’s half term and we all know what that means! Lovely to have the children at home and more time to do family things, but less time for crochet. I’m trying really hard to fit a little bit in here and there, and hopefully this can continue throughout the week.

I’m now on to my 24th colour change. According to the list I’m working from there are 60 colour changes in total, which would mean I have 36 to go. In theory I could be finished by the end of November which would be great. In practice, as long as I’m finished before Christmas I’ll be glad!

Measurement-wise, I’ve got 15 pattern repeats which is 1m30 wide, and currently the length is 56cm. A quick calculation shows that 60 rows would be 1m40 in length and I’m not sure if that will be long enough so I may have to add a few more rows… we’ll see when we get there.

This week’s photo –

Still rippling!

Still rippling and still loving it. Happy Tuesday x

Tuesday’s Tallies 5 – on Wednesday! October 19, 2011

Oh dearie me. I don’t know quite what happened to Tuesday – it just seemed to pass by before I ever got a chance to get anywhere near the computer!! Lots to do as always so a quick catch-up on Wednesday.

I’m on to my 19th colour change and back to Pomegranate, a colour I love. The ripple is now starting to spread nicely over my lap as I crochet which is a bonus now the weather has become decidedly cooler. In fact there may even have been a light frost this morning but as it was still quite dark when I first looked out I couldn’t be definite on that.

Rippling along

And on another note – I read Lucy’s post regarding the last dahlias the other day which made me think I must see if the Farmer’s Market had any this week. So yesterday morning I went off into town with this very idea in mind. First stop was coffee however with a couple of friends so we could catch up before half term. Then into the coffee shop comes my step-daughter with my gorgeous granddaughter carrying a beautiful bunch of dahlias. For me!! I was delighted on all counts as you can imagine. I had coffee and cake with friends, a good chat, met up with family and brought home a fabulous bunch of dahlias!

The last dahlias

Happy Tuesday indeed xx

I’m off now to check out how everyone else is getting on with their projects over on Gingerbread Girls’ blog

Here we are again, it’s Tuesday. I’ve had a mad hectic week, a big night out on Friday, a quiet day on Saturday, and a family day on Sunday, homework done, laundry folded, and my step-daughter, her partner and their little girl over for dinner. Of course, all of this, wonderful though it is, means little time for crochet! However, there is still progress…

The ripple progresses

Rippling loveliness

Now halfway through the 14th colour change, and I’m still loving it!

I’ve also been looking through my work bags and boxes just to see what else is still lurking. I found a pair of 2 at a time socks started ages ago so I think they may have to be revived. Although I’m enjoying the ripple blanket I do miss knitting so it will be good to bring this project back to the fore. And also to finish them! Then I still have 2 washcloths to make for the Christmas stockings so I must get on with those too!

For now, I think, a cup of tea and a little look at how everyone else is doing over on Gingerbread Girl’s blog.

Happy Tuesday x

Another Tuesday, another update for the One a Day project.

For me it’s been a really productive week. I was able to block my Northern Lights shawl, my ripple blanket is now up to the 10th colour change (!!), and not only did we manage to finish decorating our daughter’s bedroom but she has moved all her belongings back into it, and I still had time to give the bathroom a thoroughly good clean, and boy did it need it! 4 children, need I say any more!

I’m still really enjoying the ripple blanket. The Stylecraft colours are fab, and all seem to work together well. I always feel a tad uncertain when I first join in the next colour but then somehow it just seems right. I’m using the colour scheme for Lucy’s granny stripe blanket that is listed in the We Love Lucy II group on Facebook. I just love it’s rainbow gorgeousness!

So, photos…

Ripple in a box

I picked up a stack of boxes in B and Q this week on special offer – I just couldn’t resist, as I could see how useful they would be!!

I joined the 10th colour last night!

Northern Lights completed

Northern Lights blocked and ready to wear!

And just for you to see, my Northern Lights shawl in all its glory. It’s now wrapped and ready to be delivered later this week.

So, that’s it for me. Off now for a little more rippling before the school run, but that’s after I’ve checked out a few more of Tuesday’s Tallies on Gingerbread Girl’s blog xx

Well, here we are, it’s Tuesday again and time to update.

My ripple blanket is now underway and going along very nicely! I began on Sunday and have almost completed the third colour, so that’s 6 rows. I’m pretty pleased with that – it’s a good start. It’s actually a really lovely pattern to work on, as it just seems to flow along in a gentle meandering way. And the yarn is soft which makes it delightful to work with too. As you can see I’m enjoying this immensely, in fact it’s hard to tear myself away!

The ripple begins

Thank you to all you lovely ladies who left such sweet comments last week. My husband’s hand is much better now and it’s good to know that we all share similar experiences in our day to day family lives. Until next week… xx
