Another week, another Tuesday…

And yes, I did miss last week – just not enough time right now. I’ve had subject review evening for my year 11 son, GCSE information evening for my year 9 daughter, as well as dinner with friends and a housewarming party to go to so it’s been a busy time for us.

Not that there has been no crafting in between times…

I’ve got as far as I can with my Square Swap blanket. I’ve bordered and joined all the squares I’ve received so far, and my own square is almost complete. I want to add that at the end though so hopefully the other squares will arrive and then the blanket will be complete. I’m so looking forward to that.

And the socks are ongoing… I’m halfway with my 2nd sock for the September SKA Mystery Sock, and I’ve knitted a pair of socks for my nephew’s birthday. Really cute – I love knitting little socks!

So photos…

Tuesday again! Time is marching on this month – it’s going so fast!

I still haven’t managed to add a square to my Square Swap Blanket every day, but I’ve almost joined three more. On the other hand, I have completed the doily. It’s blocking now!! And then it will be off to the post office.

As an aside, I really enjoyed listening to Richard Hawley’s album ‘Standing at the Sky’s Edge’ while I was ironing this morning. I wondered if anyone else had heard it.

So photos…

I’m off now to check out the others taking part in Tuesday’s Tallies over at Gingerbread Girl.

Tuesday’s Tallies October 10, 2012

Don’t Tuesdays come round quickly! It definitely doesn’t feel like a whole week ago that I began with the Tallies once again.

And so on to progress made…

Not as much as I planned with the blanket as other projects took priority. I had to finish a teeny tiny pair of socks and a hat for my new nephew, and I started a crocheted doily for my cousin’s wedding anniversary. She got married when we were only 18 years old, and next week she has her silver wedding anniversary – that’s 25 years! Totally awesome. She lives far away from me now so I thought a doily would be the ideal gift to go in the post.

And photos…

Tuesday’s Tallies – It’s been a while…! October 2, 2012

Yes, it certainly has been a while since I last joined in with Tuesday’s Tallies. What can I say? I’ve been absent from Blogland, not posting or even commenting much. Sometimes life gets in the way! Exams, holidays, family – everything else has to take a back seat when priorities shift. But that’s not a bad thing either, and I’m now able to come back, fresh and raring to go.

So, what have I been up to in the meantime, in a crafting way, of course. Well, I’m totally hooked on socks just now. I joined a Ravelry group, Sock Knitters Anonymous, which has all sorts of sock related knitting challenges – mystery sock kals, designer knits, colour themes, etc. I’ve tried colour work, cables, 2 at a time – lots of new techniques and ideas. There’s also another group, 52 and 26 pair plunge, which aims to knit either 52 or 26 pairs of socks in a year so I signed up for that too. It may cure me of my current fad! Or not…! I’ll try to show you some photos soon.

With crochet, I still have a couple of WIPS on the go, surprise, surprise! My Square Swap blanket is now coming together. I’ve started to border each square, and join them as I go, in the order in which they arrived. Unfortunately I’m still waiting for a few, but I haven’t given up hope yet. My plan now is to border and join one square each day for my new Tuesday’s Tallies project.

Joining as I go!

And I’m really looking forward to catching up with everyone else over at Gingerbread Girl’s blog.

Happy Tuesday xx

Busy busy… May 31, 2012

Never have I known such busy days! Recently I have barely had time to draw breath, and certainly no time to blog! And we have had some truly beautiful weather so there have had to be a few moments of sitting in the sunshine too.

But as for what’s been keeping me busy…

Well, I’ve been trying to finish my squares for the Square Swap over on Facebook. I’m almost there now, with 2 left to complete, and a Post Office run by (hopefully) the end of the week!

Meanwhile, my Bernat Mystery Afghan is sitting sulking in the basket as it has become totally neglected. Almost all of the motifs are now joined together so then I have a border to do. I have to say I wasn’t overwhelmed by the border clue released for the pattern but luckily I spotted a lovely version over on Ravelry which gave me an idea for mine. All I need now is the time to bring it all together!

So, what got in the way of all my crochet progress? Well, my daughter, in year 8, is studying the Baroque period in Creative Arts this term. This covers Drama, Art, Music, etc. She had to make a baroque influenced stage set and in Art they also are printing wallpaper using Baroque motifs. The whole project will culminate in a Baroque Banquet, with one of the stage sets being chosen to be made up to set the scene, and all the pupils taking part IN COSTUME!! Here’s where I came in. After Jas had spent some time looking at various internet options and we’d rummaged through a few charity shops to no avail, I said, without thinking, “Well, I could make you a dress”. And that is where it all began!

So for the past two weeks I have done little else other than cut, tack and sew, with gathering, boning and pressing! And now it’s almost finished, only yards and yards of hemming to do. It’s been quite stressful and I did have to stay up all night last Wednesday so Jas could take it in to school on Thursday, even though it wasn’t quite ready. Gosh, was I tired? And very emotional! But now I have two weeks in which to finish it off. And next week is half term so there’s no rush! I have really enjoyed it though on the whole. It’s been a few years since I last did any dressmaking on this level and it’s great to revive that interest and the skills involved. I’ll definitely be doing more sewing in the future. In fact I now have to go and make a bearskin hat for my son’s Jubilee party on Friday – no rest for me.

But soon, I’ll be able to be back with my crochet.

Some of the squares I’ve received in the swap…

And now to finish the rest!

Happy Thursday xx

Friday is my favourite day… March 16, 2012

Because I had a yoga class this morning, I’m baking soda bread this afternoon for a get-together tomorrow, and then this evening my youngest returns from his school trip. I can’t wait for him to come home. He’s been away before but only within the county, and this time they’ve gone to London. From the updates I’ve received they have been having a wonderful time and I’m sure he’ll have lots to tell later.

Lots of lovely crochet this week. Clue 5 in the mystery afghan is a granny octagon so nice and easy – it just meanders along to the end which hopefully means I will complete 6 before Wednesday. I’m waiting for the catch-up week as I’ll really need it.

I also joined in a square swap on Facebook which is proving to be great fun. There are 20 of us and I’ve sent 5 squares and received 4 so far. We are spread around the world and it’s lovely sending and receiving post like this. Much nicer than just the usual bills and flyers!

And I finally got back to the Blanket Statement! The border is now under way and I’m hoping the Ta-dah! is not too far off!

So now some photos of my square swap squares…

And next time I’ll post photos of the squares I’ve received!

Happy Friday xx
